Icefi reported to the Guatemalan authorities a break-in in its headquarters and expects that this crime to be investigated and solved
The Central American Institute for Fiscal Studies (Icefi) reported that on the night of Wednesday August 28, 2019, an unknown group broke and entered its headquarters in Guatemala City. Since it happened after hours the offices were unoccupied, and Icefi reported that none of its personnel suffered any physical harm.
As of now the destruction of the building security system has been confirmed, and the robbery of some electronic equipment and personal belongings. For now, Icefi has not ruled out any hypothesis for the motive of the crime. The Institute has presented to the Civil National Police and the Public Prosecutor Office of Guatemala the required complaints and is following all formal proceedings that the Guatemalan legislation establishes for these cases.
Icefi expressed gratitude for all the support and solidarity expressions received, and asked the authorities the investigation of the case to identify those responsible and clarify the motive of the crime
